Merry Christmas

I spent Xmas in the USA in 1997 and it was magical. The whole city was decorated and the houses were beautiful. It felt like living in the movies. We didn´t get snow for Xmas, but it was everything still perfect.
Too bad I don't have my own pictures to share with you, those were not the days for digital cameras, but here are some photos of some Xmas decorations in the US.

Eu passei o Natal nos EUA em 1997 e foi mágico. Toda a cidade estava decorada e as casas estavam lindas. Eu me senti vivendo em um filme. Não tivemos neve, mas tudo esteve perfeito mesmo assim.
Infelizmente eu não tenho fotos minhas para compartilhar, afinal de contas não tínhamos máquinas digitais naquele tempo, mas aqui vão umas fotos de decoração de Natal nos EUA.

Ketryn, a Basic 2 student, was the one who guessed how much money Teacher Jessica had inside Steve. Because of that she got a special prize.

Ketryn, aluna do Basic 2, foi quem acertou quanto a Teacher Jessica tinha dentro do Steve. Por esse motivo ela ganhou um brinde especial.

Pancakes!

Our Teens 2 students had lots of fun last night while cooking American Pancakes. They learned new words and practiced their speaking skills.

Nossos alunos do Teens 2 se divertiram bastante fazendo panquecas Americanas. Eles aprenderam novas palavras e praticaram conversação em Inglês.

Palestra Inglês Global

Last night we had a lecture about Global English with the teacher Liam Cotter. The students of Curso de Comunicação em Língua Inglesa and FCJ had a chance of speaking with a native speaker of English (despite the fact that Liam says he is not a native speaker anymore) and to think a little bit about the influence English has on their lives. It was "food for thought"!

Ontem à noite tivemos uma palestra sobre Inglês Global com o professor Liam Cotter. Os alunos tiveram a chance de interagir com um falante nativo (apesar de Liam dizer que não é mais um falante nativo) e de pensar sobre a influência que a Língua Inglesa tem na sua vida de uma forma geral. Matéria para pensar.

Qual a diferenaça entre Happy Birthday e Happy Anniversary?

Happy Birthday é o dia em que fazemos aniversário (birth = nascimento e day = dia). Já Anniversary é a comemoração anual como casamento, tempo de empresa, inaguração etc.

• She'll throw her birthday party on Saturday. (Ela irá fazer sua festa de aniversário no sábado.)
• My birthday is November 12th and I'll be 21 this year. (Meu aniversário é dia 12 de novembro e eu faço 21 anos esse ano.)

Palestra sobre Inglês Global e Mercado de Trabalho

No dia 07/12/11 teremos na nossa escola o Professor Liam Cotter dando uma palestra sobre Inglês Global e mercado de trabalho.

A palestra será no anfiteatro da escola às 19 horas e será ministrada em inglês.

Será uma ótima oportunidade para os estudantes de Inglês saberem o que o mercado espera e o porque eles precisam aprender o idioma.

What do you like doing in your vacation?

I like playing basketball, suimming, playing in the computer, playing guitar and electric guitar. I like to see movies, programs and eat a lot. In the weekend, I like skateboarding and surfing, but I like to go to the movies, and play a lot. I visit cool places.

I like playing in the computer, in the XBOX 360, soccer and volleyball. I like eating French fries, pizza, drink coke-cola, water and juice. I go to my cousin’s house, go shopping with my sister and my sister’s friends in the holiday and at the weekend. I don’t like watching soap opera, documentaries, reality shows, musical programs. I don’t like playing basketball, cycling, handball, beach soccer and beach volleyball.

In my holiday, I’d like to go to the beach, and bring my laptop, of course! Because I want to test my new games that I was waiting for last week. It’s a big time, and the you ask yourself: but, why do they need all this time just to download CDs? And then I answer: because that was 11 or 12 CDs. It’s too many, but when it keeps ready, I will play with it all the day, I know, I’m really excited for it!

I would like to eat, talk with my friend, use the messenger, run, watchTV, read books, listen to music. I prefer rock and hardcore. My favorite band is CPM 22 and My Chemical Romance (MCR). In the weekend, I would like to write, drawn, learn many things, play basketball but in the weekend I help my mother, take a shower, sleep in my bed, do school’s work, think a lot in many things and solve problems.

O que quer dizer "jet lag"?

Quem viaja para lugares distantes e com diferenças de fuso horário pode até não conhecer a expressão, mas conhece bem o sentimento.
Jet lag nada mais é do que a sonolência, cansaço e confusão mental causadas por longas viagens de avião e as mudanças de fuso horário.
Segue um exemplo de como essa expressão pode aparecer em uma frase:
I arrived in Japan 1 week ago but I am still suffering from Jet lag.

Podemos ver essa expressão também na música "Jet Lag" da banda Simple Plan:
